Mexico
Tanned with care in León
In León, our partner Old Mexico Manufacturing is an award-winning tannery crafting premium, sustainable leather bags. Their eco-friendly tanning protects both the environment and the workers. Their commitment runs deeper than wages: they fund English classes and counseling for the families of their team.
Ethiopia
Beauty from ashes
Ethiopia is a country I have not yet visited, but it has been on my heart for years. Our partner Entoto Beth Artisans employs women in Addis Ababa whose lives have brought them through some of the hardest places. They transform foraged artillery shells into beads and locally sourced leather into accessories. Every piece symbolizes complete restoration.
Haiti
Beauty from what remains
In 2018, I traveled to Haiti to visit Haiti Design Co, where 150 artisans turn what most consider scrap into something beautiful. Oil drum metal becomes earrings. Clay, horn, and banana leaf paper become accessories.
Peru
Metals, alpaca, and legacy
In 2017, I visited Peru for my first artisan partner trip. In Fermin’s Lima workshop, I watched sterling silver crafted by hand and met women whose lives were being transformed through meaningful work. Today, Fermin’s wife and son carry on his legacy, while Andean women create beautiful woven and embroidered alpaca wool pieces from home.
Rwanda
Survivors with us from the beginning
In 2017, I traveled to Kigali to visit Umucyo Sewing Cooperative. The women here founded their workshop in 2011, and they now hand-select vibrant African Dutch wax fabrics and sew the bright pouches that some of your pieces arrive in. Umucyo is owned by the women themselves, empowering a community of survivors.
Ecuador
Carved from vegetable ivory
In 2023, I traveled to Ecuador to visit the artisans who carve, polish, and dye Tagua seeds (often called "vegetable ivory") and Achira seeds into bold, colorful jewelry. The seeds grow in the rainforest, sustainable and abundant. Every piece is made by hands paid fully and fairly, in colors as bold as the rainforest the seeds came from.
Nepal
Hand-felted in the Himalayas
In 2026, I traveled to the Kathmandu Valley to visit ACP Crafts. Their artisans hand-felt soft wool into the precious ornaments we carry, working in a tradition that has been practiced in workshops across Kathmandu and Bhaktapur for generations.
Vietnam
Hand-carved in centuries-old tradition
In 2019, I traveled across Vietnam to visit our artisan partners in Hanoi, Nghe An, and beyond. Hoa built his workshop from the ground up in rural Nghe An, where they carve and polish water buffalo horn and marble into earrings, pendants, and bangles.
Southeast Asia
Signed by the survivor
For the safety of the women we partner with, we keep this exact location private. Our partner Starfish Project provides rescue for women from human trafficking and into a life of their choosing. They find shelter, medical care, trauma counseling, job training, and dignified work creating delicate jewelry. Each piece comes signed by the survivor whose hands made it.
Thailand
Porcelain, Provision, and Hope
Along the Thailand-Myanmar border, I visited the women of Sojourn Studios, an artisan partner serving one of the world’s largest refugee communities. In a place with very little work or education, porcelain craft has become a path toward stability. Every piece made there supports fair wages, children’s schooling, and families staying together.
Guatemala
Woven Slowly, Made to Last
In Guatemala, I sat at a backstrap loom and watched cloth take shape slowly and beautifully while a baby slept on his mother’s back. From Santiago Atitlán to surrounding workshops, I met women weaving, beading, and transforming traditional textiles into modern pieces. Every purchase helps preserve craft, income, and generational skill.
Kenya
Where Everything Began
Kenya is where everything began for me. I first traveled there in 2007 as a young teacher and came home changed by what I saw: not only poverty, but a lack of opportunity. Years later, I returned to visit Bawa Hope in Nairobi, where artisan work creates dignified income for families and carries forward the legacy of Anne Nzilani.
India
The Marigolds That Named Us
India is where the name The Marigold Caravan took root. In 2020, I was welcomed into artisan workshops with marigold garlands and watched women craft leather, paper, and jewelry by hand. When I returned in 2026, the same flowers greeted me again, a reminder that every piece carries a story from her hands to yours.
Uganda
The First Beads of a Movement
Uganda holds some of Noonday’s earliest roots. I visited Jalia, Noonday’s first artisan partner, whose paper beads helped grow a movement, and Aggie of Sseko Designs, whose women-owned workshop creates beautiful leather goods. Here, every necklace, bag, and bead is tied to education, dignity, and women stepping into futures of their own making.
